The Iconic Puzzle Game Wouldn't Win at This Gaming Ceremony — An Additional Classification Could Fix That
As any major awards ceremony approaches, you'll find an outcry for introducing additional classifications to recognize underappreciated efforts and delight the passions of followers dedicated to specific genres.
A fellow writer previously argued advocating for terror-themed awards. It would be amazing. So would board games, this being a passionate advocate's mission. But they will have to forgive me for pushing forward because like all dedicated enthusiasts, there's a strong justification supporting my request is the most urgent and significant. This is the request: It's essential to create an award type for logic-based games.
The Genre Classification Challenge
Categorizing art by genre isn't exact; it remains highly personal, and typically spark debates concluding with vague boundaries. There’s a reason film award organizations don’t do it. But it is a necessary evil for the industry of interactive entertainment, that demonstrate such variety they hardly constitute a single creative category.
For comprehensive acknowledgment of achievement in video games to receive acknowledgment, and to ensure all game types to compete fairly, specific award classifications remain vital.
Current Gaming Award Categories
The major gaming awards offer these classifications covering Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Collectively, these award types successfully include many game types, and you can find room accommodating various experiences.
This doesn't apply to brain-teasing titles. There’s simply nowhere for their placement. Consider three of outstanding current releases, showing diverse approaches: the architectural riddles in a particular game, fast-paced pattern recognition from another release, engaging interpersonal challenges from additional release. Which classification works among existing types? Nowhere, that’s where.
Recognition Challenges
Many instances occur of brilliant puzzle games launched regularly lacking appropriate categories at major award shows, except when they manage to fit award groups including Handheld titles, VR/AR Game, and the highly challenging independent game categories.
- One classic puzzle game received no recognition in any category that year
- Another creative title missed out that year
- Popular arranging title got ignored recently
- Just some puzzle games scraped into niche award types
Significance of Puzzle Games
Frequently they represent modest productions, yet the craft behind logic titles is of massive significance. Well-known matching games count as most popular titles worldwide continuing this trend for an extended period.
The famous puzzle experience rivals famous sandbox experiences competing to become highest-selling title ever; it also contends for best game of all time. Logic titles represent cornerstones to the art of video games, while interacting with diverse game types.
Recommendation and Reasoning
Logic titles wouldn't face such difficulty. One could readily select a field of five engaging, different, qualified experiences each ceremony simply — or rather, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave many worthy titles.
Restating the point, these include experiences that otherwise have no home during prominent ceremonies. Puzzle game makers function at the challenging frontier interactive creation, producing among most fundamental forms within interactive entertainment. Comparable to film action specialists, they deserve recognition. We shouldn't delay decades.
